Getting creative with our off-cuts

How we make our fine pocket squares and bold silk scarves

If you've ever popped into our London shop you'll have seen the eye-popping colours of our silk scarves, ties and pocket squares. To achieve the best print, with crisp designs, perfect tonal balance and the great ink penetration to the back of the silk, we have to go through several rounds of proofing. In this iterative process we have to produce what are known in the industry as 'strike offs'. These are test prints on the fabric we will be using for the accessory. It's an essential step in the process but it does mean that we have lots of beautiful silks, wools and cashmeres hanging around the studio doing not very much and taking up valuable space (the shop is tiny!).

We're committed to reducing waste and finding innovative ways to repurpose these materials. That's why we've partnered with The Reclaimery, an inspiring organisation dedicated to circularity in fashion and creating new bespoke pieces.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of transforming discarded materials into new products of higher quality or value. It's a sustainable approach that reduces waste and promotes creativity. Instead of throwing away fabric scraps and off cuts, we're giving them a new life.

A special day of live upcycling

To showcase the power of upcycling, we hosted a special event on Saturday, 25th November in our shop. During this event, we did a live upcycle of a pair of jeans, demonstrating the transformation process from start to finish. It was an interactive and educational experience for our customers, allowing them to witness the creative process behind upcycling.

Why upcycling matters

Upcycling is more than just a trend; it's a crucial step towards a more sustainable future. By repurposing materials, we reduce the demand for new resources and minimize the environmental impact of the fashion industry. Upcycling also allows us to create truly unique and personalised pieces that can't be found anywhere else.

By choosing upcycled products, you're not only making a fashion statement but also supporting a more sustainable and eco-friendly industry.

Join us in our mission to reduce waste and embrace creativity through upcycling. Together with The Reclaimery, we're making a positive impact on the fashion industry, one repurposed piece at a time.
