Requiem for the Four Seasons
Bold and contemporary silk accessories inspired by music, data, and nature.
A collaboration with violinist, composer and UNICEF Austria Honorary Representative Yury Revich.
Conversations between Yury and Furious Gosse lead designer Patrick Morrison uncovered a deep appreciation of Vivaldi's music and an equally deep concern about climate change.
What if Vivaldi were to write the Four Seasons today with our increasingly unstable weather patterns? Do we even have four distinct seasons any more? And what would this new music look like expressed in colour, pattern and silk?
To answer these questions and to create the collection that suited Yury's bold but simple aesthetic we hacked a spectrogram. What is a spectrogram we hear you say? A spectrogram is a visual representation of frequency and coincidentally they look very similar to the kinds of climate data that we see in the news. We created a spectrogram containing the data from a live recording of Yury playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on his 1709 Stradivarius. The past meets the future and organic meets digital. The result was beautiful (if you like data that is!).
Here is the actual data we used in the design.
We then twisted, tortured (digitally speaking) and distored the data to create the fluid and kinetic designs of the collection.
